OSSC Programs Chair

- Matthew Samson -

Matthew Samson  Matthew Samson is an Opto-Mechanical Engineer at N2 Imaging Systems in Irvine, CA and has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona.  His interest in optics began through his Physics minor, starting with geometric optics in a general physics course he took with Dr. Alex Small, continuing with upper-division courses in electromagnetic wave theory and applied optics, culminating with a research project on aspheric surfaces.  In addition to optics and vision systems, his fields of interest include control and measurement systems (robotics) as well as thermal-fluids (CFD/FEA).  At the NASA-JPL 2012 Thermal Fluid Analysis Workshop (TFAWS), his presentation entitled “Thermal Management of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) using NX SST/ESC” won the first place NASA-JPL Glenn Tsuyuki Student Poster Award.  Matt served as the OSSC Arrangements Chair during the 2014-2015 year.  OSSC President Harvey Spencer appointed Matthew as a Councilor at the 2012 Summer Planning Meeting.  Matt has been seen frequently registering attendees and selling meal tickets at the OSSC monthly meetings.
