John NunnJohn Nunn began photonic application development while entering the Newport Corporation just before the telecom phenomenon in the later 1990s.  John was soon immersed in a world of fiber alignment, laser-material studies, laser diode packaging, and Nd:YAG stabilization departing somewhat from the study of pure physics that began with bachelor's studies at UC Riverside and studies towards masters at CSU Long Beach.  While continuing development in optical alignment and attachment at an optical switch company, John was recruited back to Newport in part by the acquisition of Spectra Physics and its subsidiaries.  Recognizing Newport as an optical playground, John began designing solutions for laser applications including microscopy, fluorescence, surface plasmon resonance, psec microsurgery, and quickly realized the need for DL optical design in the success of applications across the sciences and industries of physics, chemistry, and biology.  The capabilities acquired as a student of optical design have already been applied in applications and John's goal at Newport is to promote the core of optical design in scientific applications through optimized designs that substantially enhance each application.
