JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Optical and opto-mechanical design of collimating and imaging optics using
design tools such as Zemax and Code V
Translate system or subsystem requirements into optical design and
manufacturing requirements
Generate engineering drawings of opto-mechanical designs and work closely
with vendors/manufacturers to fabricate them
Understand the interplay of mechanical, thermal, and optical designs and
components to meet system performance requirements
Characterization of optical elements and sub-assemblies
Develop and document test methods, processes, and procedures for optical
system characterization
Specify and source optical and electronic components required for testing
Analysis of collected data using software platforms such as Python
Prepare documentation of test plans and data analysis to be presented to a
multi-disciplinary team of engineers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MS/PhD in optics/electrical engineering with 3+ years of experience
o Or BS in optics/electrical engineering with 5+ years of experience in
optical design, testing and characterization
Proficiency with optical system design tools such as Zemax and Code V
Proficiency with mechanical design tools such as Solidworks
Able to create specifications of precision opto-mechanical assemblies
Working understanding of semiconductor lasers operating at NIR wavelengths
Proficiency in MATLAB/Python
Experience with setting up complex test beds involving optical components such
as lenses, mirrors, scanners, photodetectors, polarizers
Ability to adapt and operate under tight deadlines
Ability to interact with a multi-disciplinary team of electronic, photonic and
mechanical engineers
Strong communication skills
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with using and handling optical fibers: single mode, multimode,
polarization maintaining fibers.
Basic knowledge of integrated photonics devices/ silicon photonics and optical
mode propagation in waveguides and fibers
Experience with test automation and implementation of data acquisition software
in Matlab/Python/Labview
