Kenn Bates has designed and built many optical and electro-optical systems in his 30 years in the defense industry. He has patented 11 novel devices in the microwave, infrared, acoustic, & optical regimes. He worked for the iconic Hughes Aircraft Company developing his talents even while the company was sold to Raytheon. While at Hughes, Kenn was a key member of a small research lab for seven years where he was called upon to develop creative applied physics solutions to complex problems. He retired from Raytheon in 2013 but was asked to come back to employ his unique skill set.
He is co-teaching Geometric Optics and Physical Optics as part of the UCI-Extension Optical Engineering and Optical Instrument Design programs.
Kenn is also an amateur astronomer owning several binoculars, telescopes, and eyepieces.
