OSSC Councilor

-Patricia Bath-

Patricia Bath is an ophthalmologist, scientist and inventor.  She is a transplanted New Yorker and Chem-Physics-Math grad of Hunter College. After obtaining her MD from Howard and her ophthalmology credentials from NYU and Columbia she joined the faculty of UCLA where she taught and directed residency training for 20 years. The lack of a biomedical laser facility at the medical center stimulated the pursuit of her research at the Laser Medical Center of Berlin, the Rothschild Eye Institute of Paris, Loughborough Institute of Technology and UC Los Alamos.

Dr. Bath has served on the FDA Ophthalmic Devices Panel and also served on panels and boards in both private and public sectors based on her professional expertise in ophthalmology, science and technology. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Fellow the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Currently she divides her time between philanthropic activities (www.blindnessprevention.org) and consulting. Consulting activities have ranged from telemedicine, regulatory affairs, to intellectual property and biomedical devices. Her research in laser-tissue interaction, damage and interferometry resulted in an invention for laser cataract surgery, 5 U.S. Patents, and authorship of numerous publications.
