Abstract: As advances in precision manufacturing equipment and techniques develop rapidly, Polymer Optics are penetrating modern optical systems at an even faster pace. Across widely varying industries and applications, optical designers are employing polymer optics to trim weight, reduce component count, and replicate complex designs in high volume and lower cost. In the right applications, molded polymer optics are an ideal cost-effective solution. A guided plant tour will allow members to see Diverse Optics’ manufacturing environment for a better understanding of our processes. Our presentation will highlight applications and environments best suited for polymer optics and which to avoid. We will discuss design guidelines and recommendations for prototyping, mold fabrication, and volume production to make your next polymer optics program a success.
About our speaker: Erik Fleming began his career in his father’s high-volume consumer products plastic injection molding company CalMold. He joined food storage manufacturer Snapware Corp when they acquired Cal-Mold in 2005. In 2008, Erik became Managing Director of Qioptiq Polymer Inc. (QPI). In 2011, Qioptiq (now Excelitas) divested QPI and transferred select assets to other global sites. With support from Qioptiq, Erik acquired QPI’s remaining assets and rebranded under the original company name from 1987, Diverse Optics. Erik serves as President/CEO. He has a B.S. in Business Entrepreneurship from USC and MBA from University of Redlands.
